Yes, The Color Theme of Your Bar, Bat Mitzvah or Wedding is Important!
I previously addressed some steps needed to minimize the stress involved in planning your party or event. I talked about budget, time and place of event, invitation lists, refreshments, and entertainment. You must address your party’s color scheme early in your decision making process if the colors are important to you.
At first glance selecting a color theme may seem trite. However, it is often the most trying, especially when several people have input into the decision making process. After all, the colors carry over onto multiple aspects of the event and impact many future decisions.
Color selection affects many areas in your party planning process, such as invitations, fonts, inks, as well as stamps. It also carries through tablecloths, napkins, centerpieces, candy, give-a-ways, etc. They may also determine what outfits the band or disc jockey and entertainers select, as well as the family and wedding party attire.
In consulting with families and couples, I find the rule of thumb is compromise when there is no immediate agreement. Give and take, or compromise, often works well; parties who give up on one point often win on another! However, if compromise fails someone must take the role as ultimate decision maker. Otherwise making decisions in areas where color selection plays a major role will be negatively impacted. Possible heated disagreements and hurt feelings may result.
If you do not have colors selected or any color preferences do not fret. Sometimes the invitation you select sets the color tone for the entire party and acts as a natural launching point. Browse through a book of invitations from a party planner or printer or visit an online invitation Website for ideas. This may trigger an inspiration or lead you to an immediate decision.
From there a simple transition to invitation ink color and calligraphy ink color is natural. You can complement or contrast. It is your party, so pick what makes you happy and have a good time!
From here you can easily progress napkins and tablecloths.
It makes flowers or decorative theme centerpieces color coordination a cakewalk, along with candy and or give-a-ways. This also leads to balloons colors, if you plan to include in your decorations, as well as the outfit your entertainers may wear. Perhaps you may even select the colors outfits of the wait staff, ask to see if there is an option. See how easy decision making becomes!
With regard to color selection of your postage stamps, we always suggest you take a complete invitation set to the post office where you will mail. Then you can determine the actual postage required. For instance, you may need to select two stamps if you exceed a one ounce stamp. You may even choose two separate stamps if the colors of the both go better with your color theme.)
An alternative may be customized postage. You can even get creative and dress in color coordinated attire that complements the invitation and/or adds to your party’s color theme.
A word of caution is in order. You want to wait until you receive the printed invitations for a true color comparison. Do not use a downloaded color sample or try to use digital photograph, since neither represent the true colors. True colors depend on the paper and how the ink is absorbed. It is always BEST to compare the actual invitation and the stamps in natural (i.e. sun light) color!
Remember, deciding ahead of time on smaller items such as color themes helps avoid some of the stress associated in your party planning later on.
